Chain Link Fencing

Affordable, durable chain link — residential and commercial applications

Chain link is the most functionally efficient fencing material on the market — the lowest cost per linear foot, the longest-lasting (60+ year lifespans are common for galvanized chain link), and effectively zero maintenance. The classic silver galvanized look isn't for everyone, but modern vinyl-coated chain link in black, green, or brown virtually disappears against landscaping and delivers all the chain-link advantages with significantly better curb appeal.

Dynasty Restoration installs chain link for residential (pet containment, dog runs, pool enclosures), small-commercial (parking lots, equipment yards), and specialty applications (sports fields, security perimeters) throughout Chicagoland. We use proper gauge fabric, terminal posts sized correctly for fence height, and tension the fabric to the right tightness — the difference between a chain link fence that stays tight for 30 years and one that sags within 5.

Chain Link Options

Galvanized (Silver)

The traditional look. Zinc-coated steel wire. Lowest cost, longest lifespan. 60+ years is realistic on well-installed fence.

Vinyl-Coated (Black / Green / Brown)

Galvanized wire with a fused PVC coating in black, green, or brown. Dramatically better aesthetics — fades into the background. Same durability as galvanized.

Residential (11-Gauge)

Standard residential fabric — 11 or 11.5 gauge wire. Common heights 4 or 6 feet. Handles pet containment and general property use.

Commercial (9-Gauge)

Heavier fabric for commercial and security applications. 9-gauge wire, stronger terminal posts, taller heights.

Privacy Slats

Plastic slats woven vertically through the chain link to add visual privacy. Available in colors matching the fabric.

Dog Run Construction

Small enclosed runs with proper gate hardware, secure latches, and optional roof coverage for smaller dogs.

Why Tension Is Everything

A chain link fence lives or dies on fabric tension. Properly tensioned, the fabric stays taut for decades, posts don't flex, and gates stay square. Under-tensioned, the fabric sags, the fence develops wavy lines, and animals push through or climb over more easily. Our install process uses a come-along tensioner to pull the fabric tight between terminal posts, then secures it with tension bars and bands at the correct intervals. It's a detail that separates professional installs from weekend-warrior work.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chain Link Fencing

Is black vinyl-coated chain link much more expensive?
Roughly 20–30% more than galvanized. For most homeowners, the aesthetic improvement is well worth it — black chain link with black posts genuinely disappears against landscape.
How tall should my chain link fence be?
4 feet for most pet containment (smaller dogs), 6 feet for larger dogs, security, and pool code compliance. Go taller if you have a jumper or if local code requires it for pool enclosures.
Can chain link be installed on a sloped yard?
Yes. Chain link follows grade naturally because the fabric flexes. We set posts plumb and let the fabric contour the terrain, with terminal posts at slope changes.
