Emergency tarping is the stopgap that separates a manageable repair from a catastrophic interior loss. When a roof is opened up by a storm — whether from a fallen limb, a blown-off section after straight-line winds, or a tree through the siding — water intrusion begins immediately. Within 24 to 48 hours, untreated water damage begins producing mold in drywall, insulation, and framing. Tarping stops that timer.
Dynasty Restoration responds same-day or next-morning across most of our Chicagoland service area. We install heavy-duty commercial tarps, board up broken windows and openings, and document the damage for your insurance carrier — all in one visit.
What Proper Tarping Looks Like
A professional emergency tarp is heavy reinforced poly (6-mil minimum), sized to overlap the damaged area by at least 4 feet in every direction, and fastened through 1x3 wood furring strips screwed directly into the roof framing. Edges are sealed against wind uplift, and penetrations through the tarp are taped and sealed. A tarp installed this way holds up through multiple storms and buys 30–90 days of protection while a permanent repair is scheduled.
Tarping done wrong — stapled to shingles, loose at the edges, or sized too small — blows off in the next wind event and often makes the damage worse. The difference in material cost between a proper tarp and a bad one is under $50. The difference in outcome is the entire claim.
Board-Up for Openings
Broken windows, blown-out doors, and siding breaches require board-up protection, not tarps. Our crews carry plywood in standard sizes and attach it securely to the rough opening so the home remains weathertight and secure against wildlife and unauthorized entry. Board-up is typically left in place until glass and siding materials are ordered and installed.
