Window Repair

Fix fogged glass, failed seals, broken balances, and drafty windows

Not every window failure is a full replacement. A fogged glass pack, a broken balance that won't hold the sash up, a failing piece of weatherstripping — these are repair problems, not replacement problems. Fixing them restores the window to working condition for 10–20% of what a new window would cost, and it makes sense on any window that's otherwise dimensionally sound and has remaining life in the frame.

Dynasty Restoration handles targeted window repairs across all common operation styles. We diagnose the failure honestly and recommend repair or replacement based on what's actually going to serve you longest — we never push a whole-window replacement when a $200 part is the right fix.

Common Window Repairs

Fogged or Failed IGU

Replace the insulated glass unit when the interior seal fails and condensation forms between panes. Frame stays in place.

Broken Balance (Double-Hung)

Sash won't stay up? The spring-loaded balance has failed. Replace in about 20 minutes per window.

Failed Weatherstripping

Old compressible weatherstrip replaced with new factory-matched material to restore the air seal.

Broken Sash Locks & Handles

Replace with manufacturer-matched or universal-fit hardware in matching finish.

Casement Crank / Operator Failure

Gearbox or crank replacement — we match the operator to the brand and year of the window.

Frame Rot Repair

Wood window frames with localized rot can be repaired with resin treatment or piece-and-patch work before a full replacement is needed.

When Repair Stops Being the Right Call

Repair makes sense when the frame is still sound, the operation is single-point (one part failed, the rest works), and the window itself is a decent product. When we start seeing multiple failures on the same window (fogged glass + broken balance + weatherstrip gone), or when the original window was a low-end builder-grade product, the cumulative repair cost starts approaching the cost of a quality replacement. At that point we'll give you an honest comparison so you can decide which makes more sense — repair or upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions About Window Repair

How much does window repair cost?
Typical repairs run $75–$450 per window depending on the part. IGU replacement is usually $250–$450; balances and hardware are $80–$200; weatherstripping is $75–$150.
Is it worth repairing a fogged window?
Usually yes — IGU replacement costs much less than a full window replacement and restores the insulating value. Exception: if the window is a dated single-pane or early-generation double-pane, replacement may be the better long-term value.
How long do window repairs take?
Most parts-replacement repairs take 20–60 minutes per window. IGU replacements require a measure visit followed by an install visit 1–3 weeks later when the new glass is fabricated.
